A father-and-son project born from a love of music and code.
Who We Are
MelodyMatrix is a project by Frank and Vik Delporte, father and son, under the umbrella of CodeWriter bv, Frank’s software company based in Belgium.
Frank is a Java Champion with a deep passion for JavaFX and desktop application development. He has been writing Java for years and loves pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the desktop.
Vik is a 16-year-old musician with a big music talent and a growing interest in combining that musical background with computers and AI-assisted coding. MelodyMatrix is his playground as much as Frank’s.
A Bit of History
It started with a simple question: why is it so hard to visualize and understand what’s happening in a MIDI file? Frank and Vik began experimenting with Java, JavaFX, and Kotlin to build their own viewer, one that would show the music in a way that actually makes sense to a musician.
Over time, that experiment grew into MelodyMatrix: a multi-view MIDI tool with multiple ways to “look at music”. We kept adding features we actually wanted as musicians, and kept the codebase clean enough that we could share it with the world.
We open-sourced the viewer components, hoping to inspire more developers to explore desktop application development with Java and JavaFX — and to invite contributions that make MelodyMatrix even better.
How Sales Work
All purchases and license management are handled by Polar, which acts as our Merchant of Record. This means Polar handles payment processing, VAT and tax calculations, license issuance, and compliance. We can focus on building the app, they handle the administration.
If you have any issue with a purchase, just reach out, and we’ll work with Polar to get it resolved. We don’t store your payment details.

Privacy
We are not interested in your data. We collect almost nothing:
- If you buy a license: Polar stores your purchase data so we can help with license issues. We store the email so we can send you the license key, now and in the future. That’s it.
- In the app: we only count the number of license checks. No usage tracking, no telemetry, no analytics.
- On this website: we use Clicky with anonymized IPs and no tracking cookies, just to get a rough sense of visitor numbers.
Your music is yours. We don’t spy on what you play or how you use the app.
